MARIQUITA CHAPTERS 1 - 3

WRITE A REFLECTION ON CHAPTERS 1 - 3.

  1. The novel seemed boring in chapter one. It only described who Mariquita was, which was her family, personality, and basically her background. It started to get interesting in chapter two. My favorite chapter out of the three is chapter three. I love the part where Edward and Mariquita start to make their relationship public. I like how their love is growing stronger the more time they spend together. I can relate to their relationship. This is my opinion on the novel.

  2. The novel to me in chapters 1 and 2 were not that interesting maybe because i wasnt comprehending the readings.In the middle of chapter two i kind of got what the novel is about,only because i read part of it.Mariquita's lifestyle is like mine when the power goes out.Except i don't catch rainwater.I want to finish this novel so i can say that i finished a novel and i want to see what happens in the end.

  3. the novel for me is really exciteing, the more we read it the more exciting it will get... the novel starts off not as exciting but like the first time i read it, everyone will get more interested about it... chapter 1 is getting to know mariquita and her friends, and also it introduces eddie into the story ( i think thats his name?). chapter two s basicly about her and her friends and what she likes to do like dressing up and sewing.

  5. @brandon: I didn't get the novel at first until i kept reading on. I did like how their lifestyle was simple. I also want to finish the novel also just to find out what happens in the end.

  6. @Marini and Brandon: most novels appear to start off dry or rather "boring" sorry to say but it is just the part of the novel that acquaints the reader to the characters and the setting.

    Marini, I'm glad that you think that the novel is starting to get interesting :)

    Brandon, I'm glad that you can relate to the novel and that you are looking forward to saying that you read a novel from start to finish :)

  7. @Ben: since this is your second time reading this novel with Mrs. Q, I hope that you will discover some things that you missed from the first time. I've read this novel at least a dozen times and almost every time that I re-read it, I still discover things that I missed previously.

  8. Just when it said that this novel Mariquita is based on true story, real characters from Guam, and its setting takes place in Agana, Guam, I am interested in reading it. This is my first time reading a novel about one of the character that just passed away last week and is getting buried today Saturday, for what I heard. Well about chapters two and three, it said that Mariquita got engaged young. I agree on that part. I know people that are engaged now in their young age. I have a friend who got engage when she was 17 and got married when she was 18 years old. It also said in the novel that Mariquita hardly hang out with her girlfriend's after she got engaged. I agree on that cause after my friend got engaged, she hardly hang out with me and our other friends.

    I agree with you. The more you read the novel and understand it, it is getting more interested and exciting to read about a love story of two couples like Mariquita and Edward.

    @Marini

    I'm with you on how you can relate to their relationship. Mariquita and Edward relationship is almost like mine. Except for the getting married part and having a kid.

    And yeah, I can wait to read more.

  10. When we first started reading the novel Mariquita I thought it was very boring the first two chapters. The reason why is because it's only the introduction of the story and the people in the book. On the other hand I became interested once we began chapter three because it was about Eddie and Mariquita's relationship becoming more than just friends.They actually got married and had a child together.

  11. At first the story pretty boring in the introduction. As we read on the story began to get more interesting when mariquita begins to be more dramatic how she wants to be more than just friends with Eddie. I've read about her letter to her mom & dad how she explains the environment & the amusements. In chapter 4, mariquita gets into a marriage with Eddie & have kids of their own. Eddie wasn't too happy about the rented house because it had everything he considered neccessary and he was anxious to begin their married life together.

    Yes it was pretty boring during the novel. On chapter 3 it was also very interesting for me also because mariquita gets more dramatic & her & Eddie start a life together being more than just friends & getting married to eachother & having children. The story is getting more into bigger details & its breaking in more about what the story is about.
